2022 Acura TLX: Exciting Driving Persona with a Good Value

2022 Acura TLX

The 2022 Acura TLX is a firm entry in small luxury sedans. Last year, Acura redesigned the TLX, granting the car a greater sense of style, more road presence, and enhanced performance with upgraded technology. Though this car is to serve brilliantly to its owners on buzzy city roads, Acura had something more to offer with this model, something more than just simplicity and elegance infused with good value. The 2022 Acura TLX’s top-notch trim now comes with V-6, making it not just a classy and budget-friendly car but a sports sedan to compete with the likes of Lexus IS, Audi A4, BMW M330i, and Genesis G70, which are some of the most impeccable cars in their perspectives.

The 2022 Acura TLX has a couple of trims. The base trim is priced at $39,995, technology, A-spec, and advance come with a turbocharged four-cylinder engine, and finally, at the top spot, the type S priced at $ 54,798, which comes with a turbocharged V-6 to match its more efficient rivals such as Audi A4 and the techy Genesis G70. The 2022 Acura TLX beats its competitors in terms of pricing.

Credentials, Drive, and Looks of 2022 Acura TLX

2022 Acura TLX Engine

In the 2022 Acura TLX lineup, the base, Technology, A-Spec, and Advance all come with a standard turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that produces a competitive 272 horsepower and a rounded-off 380 Nm of torque. The transmission is a 10-speed automatic transmission with a front-wheel drivetrain, and the Super Handling all-wheel drive (SH-AWD) is optional. Despite its impressive torque, the 2022 Acura TLX is relatively slow off the line compared to its rivals, such as Audi A4 and the BMW M330i. DUE TO ITS MASSIVE WEIGHT, the TLX takes 5.9 laborious seconds to reach 60mph from a standstill. The 2022 Acura TLX Type S, which is its top-dog sports trim, comes with an exclusive turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6 that pumps 355 horses and 480 Nm, vigorously propelling the Type S off the line and helping it reach the 60 mph mark in just 4.9 seconds and going a top speed 155 mph. The type S comes with all-wheel drive, a unique grille pattern, Aerodynamic enhancements, 20-inch alloy wheels, Adaptive suspension, Brembo performance brakes, Sport+ driving mode, and much more as standard equipment.

Though the base version of the 2022 Acura TLX is relatively slow in acceleration due to its weight, the chassis is tuned fine enough to give the driver bliss. Moreover, the all-wheel-drive system provides the TLX with more agile and controlled body motions while navigating through tight turns, while the type S does even better with torque vectoring, adaptive suspension, and extra chassis bracing. The steering is not up to the mark on basic settings, but turning the drive mode selector to Sport gives the wheels some serious power and control, resulting in more spirited driving. As compared to the last generation’s eight or 9-speed automatic transmission, the 10-speed transmission in the all-new 2022 Acura TLX is a massive improvement, but it still doesn’t achieve shifting perfection as It shifts early under light throttle and is a bit sluggish in Normal and Comfort drive modes. But, the turbo boost in the Sport mode gives a lot of responsive and quick acceleration.

As we cover the exterior department, one would be delighted to see the sporty and sleek exterior of the 2022 Acura TLX. Like the previous year, the styling is unique, with a more fabulous road presence kept in mind while designing. The sleek and a bit edgy TLX-type S also gets 20-inch alloy wheels adding more to the looks of the sports sedan.

Inside the Cabin

2022 Acura TLX Interior

The interior of the 2022 Acura TLX is very expressive and has a design that contributes to its sporty character. The interior includes striking analog gauges and a noticeable drive-mode selector in the middle of the dashboard, which can be rotated to select different drive modes, keeping it very simple, and in a world full of digital navigation, Acura preferred the easy and key-less entry too. The build quality of the 2022 Acura TLX’s interior is also sublime, which claims more excellent cabin materials, including open-pore wood, natural aluminum, and comfortable front seats with ample amount of movement in all directions.

Because of the sleek design of the sedan, the space of the back seat is a bit compromised as they are smaller than some competitors in this class. Forward visibility is excellent and very rewarding to the drivers. The 2022 Acura TLX has a large 10.5-inch head-up display and customizable ambient-lighting settings. In the center, a 10.2-inch infotainment system is controlled by a touchpad on the center console. The steering wheel has several buttons and physical controls next to the touchpad. Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a Wi-Fi hotspot are standard in the 2022 Acura TLX. The advanced package offers an extravagant ELS sound system and a wireless charging pad for owners who want extra flair.

Generational Analysis

Acura TLX Generations

The second generation 2022 Acura TLX is undoubtedly one of the finest and most high-performing models out of all the TLX’s ages. But as we look into a broader perspective, the older generation models of the TLX were also impressive at their time.

The TLX has two generations. The first generation (2015 – 2017) of the TLX had the face of a proper commercial sedan with a simple exterior and interior. It came with four-cylinder and V-6 engines coupled with eight or 9-speed automatic transmissions starting at just $17,969, which is tremendously friendly to the buyer’s wallet. The first generation, after 2017, got a facelift in 2018, which continued till 2020. In the facelift era, the TLX was given a sportier look and a lavish interior with better technology. It was produced with the same as old four-cylinder and v-6 engines, eight or 9-speed automatic transmission, and front or optional all-wheel drive. The price of these facelift first-generation models would start from $24,017, which was also very economical.

The second generation (2021 – present) was an overall upgrade. Acura meant severe business and competitiveness with its market rivals. The second generation was produced with powerful four-cylinder and V-6 engines, both turbocharged. The old eight or 9-speed automatic transmission was replaced with a smooth, fast, and advanced 10-speed automatic transmission with a base front wheel and optional all-wheel drivetrain. Looks-wise, the TLX had never looked better; the second generation TLX was redesigned with a meaner, more aggressive, and sportier look than the last generation. New and better technology was also infused with accurate and joyous rides.

Real-World MPG

The front-drive 2022 Acura TLX does 24 mpg combined- 22 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway, which is much worse than its rivals. For example, the Audi A4 and the BMW M330i combine 27 mpg and 28 mpg, respectively. SH-AWD-equipped TLX models to attain those figures dropped to 21 mpg city and 29 highway. The 2022 Acura TLXType S does 19 mpg cities and 25 highways.

Conclusion

The 2022 Acura TLX will surely do the job of a sports sedan and a family car. It is a sharp sedan that will look well in anyone's driveway as of the A-spec, which holds the styling elements of the Type S in the standard TLX lineup. It may not be the best handling beast around the corners as its rivals are, but what the TLX offers, with its price tag, makes it hard to find a better deal in that range. The mediocre performing engine doesn't surprise the driver with the thrust of a real sport sedan. Still, the Sport driving mode undoubtedly channels the vehicle to its best car while cornering. The optional summer tires are a good trade for the TLX to roll with the Audi A4, BMW 3 Series, and Alfa Romeo Giulia on curvy mountain roads.
